A Diagrid of Distinction Enables a Sun-Lit, Social Skyscraper

Poly International Plaza is the first structure of its kind – incorporating a four-story, pure-axial load, super-diagrid frame without perimeter columns. Through its technical and spatial innovation, it redefines the human experience within the speculative high-rise office type, offering a unique, environmentally high-performance workplace, in contrast to the typical center-core office building. The project occupies a highly visible position within a new urban district on the outskirts of Beijing.

The design embodies a deep integration of architecture and structure, achieving a strong daylight-filled visual openness. To address climatic and air quality challenges, an actuated double skin envelopes the interior. At the building’s narrow ends, the interstitial space expands to create two 29-story atria, which pull in daylight and harness expansive downtown views. These atria create opportunities for social interaction and connectivity between floors, through communicating stairs, meeting rooms and balconies. Elevator lobbies open directly toward the atria, providing geographic orientation by way of external views.
