The Silo is a renovation of the largest industrial building in the redeveloped neighborhood of Nordhavn (North Harbor) in Copenhagen, Denmark. It has been transformed from a grain silo into a 38-unit apartment building, with a public function space on the ground floor and a restaurant on the top floor. The immensity of the original enclosures makes for dramatic, raw spaces with ceiling heights up to seven meters. All apartments have floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies with a view of Copenhagen’s skyline.
On the exterior, a facade made of galvanized steel serves as a climate shield. The new facade’s bright and reflective surface enhances The Silo’s original monolithic character, transforming it into an urban focal point for the redevelopment of the Nordhavn area. On top of The Silo, a new hovering element is placed, covered with reflective glass. From the rooftop terrace, there is a unique and breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city of Copenhagen.
