Greening the Streetscape and the Skyline

Skypark is a mixed-use development located at Mong Kok, one of the densest urban districts in Hong Kong, with 439 residential units and a shopping mall. The objective was to build a community for young singles and couples, who are attracted by the vibrant, energetic and fascinating lifestyle in this neighborhood.

The podium shopping mall – “The Forest” – enhanced the streetscape by breaking down a large podium mass into smaller blocks, resembling a low-density “shopping village.” The open plaza, internal street, greenery, grand staircase, outdoor furniture, openable glass window and skylight were designed to create an outdoor atmosphere throughout the mall. Shoppers could feel like they are “exploring” in this “shopping village.”

The residential clubhouse and landscaped garden, which are connected by the iconic “Sky Stair,” were placed at the top floor and the roof of a 25-story mixed-use building. While the residents can enjoy a cosmopolitan life in this vibrant neighborhood, the clubhouse and roof garden also provide an escape from the busy city by with its openness, spectacular city views, greenery, fresh air and sunlight.
